COST SNAPSHOT

Start with a range. Then price the actual job.

Typical carpet installation is about $2–$8 per sq. ft. before unusual prep, premium fibers or complex stairs.

FloorCalc planning data refreshed August 2026. See methodology and sources.

The number that matters is the total scope.

Product price alone can miss labor, tear-out, subfloor work, waste, stairs, transitions and finishing. FloorCalc exposes those items instead of burying them in one multiplier.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Carpet Cost Calculator FAQ

How much does it cost to carpet a 12×12 room?

A 12×12 room is 144 square feet before waste. The final price depends on carpet grade, pad, labor, removal and minimum installer charges; enter 12 by 12 for a tailored range.

How much carpet do I need?

Measure the room area, then add waste for seams, doorways and room shape. Carpet roll width can create extra waste, so the calculator uses a planning allowance rather than assuming perfect utilization.

Does the estimate include carpet padding?

Yes. FloorCalc includes a pad allowance in carpet mode and displays it separately in the cost breakdown.

Can I calculate carpet replacement rather than new installation?

Yes. Choose Replace existing floor and select the old flooring type. Removal and disposal are then added separately.
