How FloorCalc estimates flooring material, labor, waste, removal, prep and project cost ranges.
How the estimate is built
FloorCalc starts with your measured floor area. It adds the selected waste allowance to determine purchase area, applies material and labor assumptions for the chosen flooring type, then adds the job conditions you selected: removal, floor preparation, underlayment/pad, transitions, stairs, trim and furniture moving.
Why we show a range
Flooring bids vary by product, local labor market, room geometry, access, substrate condition, minimum charges and contractor scope. A low / expected / high range is more useful than presenting a national average as false precision.

Custom rates beat national defaults
If you know the exact material price or have a contractor labor quote, enter those values in the calculator. FloorCalc will use them instead of the built-in material/labor assumptions.
Regional adjustment
The state selector applies a broad planning factor to labor-sensitive portions of the estimate. It is intentionally conservative and does not represent sales tax, a formal construction cost index, local permit fees or a guaranteed bid.
What is excluded
Sales tax, permits, mold/asbestos remediation, structural repairs, moisture remediation, major substrate replacement, moving appliances or cabinets, specialty design fees, financing and contractor minimum charges can fall outside the estimate unless represented by the selected allowances.
